Our Story

The Michelle Project is dedicated to creating inclusive educational programs inspired by holidays and observances. We aim to empower youth in the Greater Houston area, and beyond, by providing access to meaningful educational opportunities. Our vision is for all students to have the chance to succeed, regardless of socio-economic status, language, physical or mental abilities, or learning differences.

Formerly known as The Axis Youth Network, the organization was founded on August 13, 2016. It began with a college and career seminar at the Montgomery County Central Branch Library. Since its inception, The Michelle Project has hosted numerous impactful events in the Greater Houston area, including HBCU Fest, Girl Power Party, Spark 5, All About, and college tours, all aimed at empowering and inspiring the community."

Our Name

Michelle Ford
The Michelle Project is named in honor of our founder's aunt, Michelle Ford. Born on December 17, 1969, in Far Rockaway, NY, Michelle dedicated her life to education. After high school, she attended St. Francis College and later York College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Elementary Education from York College. Throughout her career, Michelle was dedicated to helping every child reach their full potential. She passed away on June 25, 1999, but her legacy lives on. The Michelle Project is committed to continuing her work in education and advocacy for all children.
